What was better wwf or wcw
Nash and Hall came over. Names like Flair and Sting stuck around. Those are the big names that the world would know. WCW had just about every big-time star from all over the world at this time. What a problem to have. Chris Jericho is probably one of the most underrated legends in the history of the business. Sadly with so many other bigger stars on top, there was nowhere to place him, except WWE.
The rest of the belts were too, but for an entirely different reason - they looked gimmicky and haven't aged well. But WCW had belts that looked like they were worth fighting for. Before Nitro, the wrestling shows were predominantly filled with journeymen matches.
Bischoff changed all of that by getting all kinds of talent to put on all kinds of matches. The combinations of talent were near incalculable. On any given Nitro, you could have matches wrestling journalists and fans go ballistic over. Even when inside an area, Bash At The Beach had sand everywhere for ambiance. That would explain why no expense was spared with the giant pumpkins, gargoyles, and tombstones.
But in WCW, there were many carefully written storylines. The Cruisers had their stories too, such as Jericho collecting masks, and Dean Malenko coming back as Ciclope. They might not have always known how to end them, but WCW had a lot of compelling storylines.
Mike Tyson brought a lot of eyes to the WWE product. When that idea worked out so well for them, WCW would follow suit. They brought in all kinds of celebrities to try and bring eyes to their product. Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman Rodman even ditched practice with the Bulls during the playoffs to come to Nitro both came through with big-time appearances for the company.
But watching Bischoff actually host his version of the Tonight Show as part of the promotion for the event was a stroke of genius for the company. WCW could have been competitive with their early year stories but they failed to capitalize WWF; by a landslide. CrucifiedRaven The Evenflow Effect. If we are talking product wise, there can be a case for WCW in as many posters have selected. Though in , even though the WWE product was weak in this period Yet the buy rates for Wrestlemania 10 and the Rumble were much higher. HBKperfect23 Championship Contender. Joined: Dec 30, Messages: Likes Received: I started watching in late 91 so I'll start with Flair was back. I was a big fan of the tag division, especially the Hollywood blondes.
Shawn Michaels was going strong in WWF but that's about all they had. I just didn't watch much WCW in WWF had its strongest product ever in my opinion. I'm looking forward to the network getting some 97 Nitro on there because I have heard they had a lot of good stuff too. It was getting unwatchable in 99, it was beyond unwatchable in WWF had one of its best years ever in my opinion.
I Know I'm in the minority but I enjoyed the invasion angle and think they did pretty well with what they had. TW Contracts made it impossible to have the Nwo, flair,Goldberg, etc. I included this year because McMahon buying WCW, even tho I loved it at the time, was the worst thing for us the fans. It ended the most fun time in history to be a fan. I really think bischoff buying WCW could have at least prolonged the war and at the very least kept McMahon on his toes with competition.
We will never know what McMahon vs Bischoff without turner could have been. I still think McMahon wins but we get more years of competition. Joined: Jul 16, Messages: Likes Received: Great year to be a kid and a fan of WWF. Oh dear lord. Still in firm control WWF. Greatest Royal RUmble to date with Flair winning. Nuff said. WWF was slipping big time at this point but they were still on top. Albeit by a hair. Nitro debuted with strong numbers and they were now officially really competition for WWF but they were still losing the competition on most nights.
There were a lot of bad gimmicks in both companies in 95, which was arguably the worst year for wrestling in the 90's, but no gimmick was as stupid as THE YETI! Diesel and company weren't that great in WWF, but the dungeon of doom stable were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. Vince and company had nothing to counter with other than lame skits poking fun at WCW wrestlers' ages. Oh what a difference a year makes.
Time to turn the channel folks. The nWo was still the best thing going. Nitro was must see tv. Maybe the best pure wrestling show ever produced on a weekly basis. Better than anything Raw had ever done. It had style in the nwo vs wcw storyline, it had substantive wrestling with the cruiserweights, and it had the deepest roster since the WWF in the late 80's. But even with all that going for them WWF was still getting trounced and rightfully so.
Another amazing year for wrestling. This is the year the WWF regained control and never really looked back. Still a good year for WCW though. But cracks in their armor were starting to show. Not even close. Wow how the mighty have fallen.
WCW barely even registering anymore. Titanic going down. It taught basic wrestling and entertainment skills, but were horrible in their training for the most part. The school took just about anyone if they looked the part, as they needed new stars big time. So, indy wrestlers and athletes from all over went in to the school hoping for a WCW career.
A lot of the time, WCW execs or wrestlers would see someone they felt could be big, and would hire them, and send them to the Plant. Some just showed up, those who weren't scouted and hired, and had to pay to train there.
Goldberg, who was probably the most popular graduate, said he blamed his short career on the Power Plant, saying: "I don't think it was a priority to protect your opponent. He said that because the new stars like himself who came in were careless in the ring and had to be carried by other stars. The Giant, who we know now as The Big Show, said in his recent DVD release, that the Power Plant taught him basic skills, but he realized that he had to be carried in matches.
But the thing was, it was OK at that point. They didn't care. When he arrived in WWE, he said it was a complete , he had to actually know how to wrestle. He was put on the rise quickly in WCW because they needed to develop stars for the future. This is why we went from seeing former big stars, to random guys no one ever heard of, winning all sorts of titles.
This is the about the same time Sting got a gimmick change, Booker T got bigger and Rey Mysterio made his impact. EB wanted the Cruiserweight division to be big, so, he went out and hired guys from around the world to add International flair.
People such as Jushin Liger made his mark during this time. So, neither really lost a lot back then. But, it was the competition that made these two companies do crazy things. While the NWO was great at the time, even those internally thought it lasted 6 months too long. Bischoff then saw contract after contract expiring. So, he kept asking for money to re-sign these men and women. People such as Hogan, Nash and Hall ran the company from the inside, with Nash even being in charge of booking at one point, which curiously was around the time he ended Goldberg's winning streak.
But obviously he wouldn't kill the streak to get himself over, right? Then we saw the Finger Poke of Doom, one of the biggest mistakes ever developed by a creative team. Ted Turner needed another show to help out his new network TBS. TNT was doing great, and Nitro was one of the reasons.
